Isolated Drainage of the Inferior Vena Cava to the Left Atrium.

چکیده

Isolated drainage of either the superior or inferior vena cava to the left atrium is a rare condition. Isolated drainage of the inferior vena cava to the left atrium has been described only by Gardner and Cole (1955) and by Meadows, Bergstrand, and Sharp (1961). The condition leads to a right-toleft shunt in the absence of clinical features of cardiovascular abnormalities. A further case in which the diagnosis was confirmed by cardiac catheterization is here put on record. Angiography demonstrated an important alternative venous pathway carrying lower extremity blood to the superior vena cava by the azygos vein. The patient sustained an unfortunate but unusual neurological complication of the investigation and this also is reported.

Multifactorial Neonatal Thrombosis in Inferior Vena Cava Dislodged to the Right Atrium: A Case Report

Background: Neonatal thrombotic diseases can cause mortality or serious morbidity and disability.Case report: In this report, we present a case of neonatal inferior vena cava thromboembolism with several underlyingfactors. Hereditary thrombophilia and genetic mutation in plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 and MTHFR A1298C genesin conjunction with cleft palate resulted in poor l...

Anomalous drainage of inferior vena cava to left atrium in association with total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage.

Drainage of the inferior vena cava directly into the left atrium is a rare but well recognised anomaly of systemic venous drainage. It has been reported in isolation and in association with other cardiac defects. We report a case of anomalous drainage of the inferior vena cava into the left atrium in association with total anomalous pulmonary venous drainage of the supracardiac type, a hitherto...

Partial abnormal drainage of superior and inferior caval veins into the left atrium: two case reports.

Abnormal connection of the right superior caval vein to the left atrium is an uncommon systemic vein drainage anomaly, with only a few cases reported among congenital heart disease (CHD), around 20 cases published in the medical literature. The inferior vena cava connection with the left atrium, also very rare, can appear directly or in heterotaxy. Clinical suspicion arises due to the presence ...

Total Anomalous Systemic Venous Drainage with Heterotaxia Syndrome: A Rare Case

Total anomalous systemic venous return is a very rare anomaly, where vena cava inferior, vena cava superior, and coronary sinus drain into left atrium. Two-day-old male baby was admitted with cyanosis and tachypnea after the birth. Left atrial isomerism with anomalous systemic venous drainage was found on echocardiographic examination. We present an unusual case of total anomalous systemic veno...

Scimitar sign with normal pulmonary venous drainage and anomalous inferior vena cava.

A case of the scimitar sign due to an anomaly of the right sided pulmonary vein with normal drainage into the left atrium was associated with an azygos continuation of the inferior vena cava. Digital subtraction angiography allows the identification of these rare congenital vascular malformations.
